When you think Italian Luxury Menswear, you think Canali. Canali has long been established as an authority in formalwear, and now it's expanded to include more causal pieces like jeans and knitwear. It's been proudly family-run for nearly 80 years and preserves the original values of craftsmanship and quality. You can feel the expertise in each stitch.
Made in Italy is not just a label, but the result of a longstanding tradition that interweaves culture and history, style and taste, a quest for excellence and respect for professionalism, quality and reliability. It is for this reason that all of collections are produced directly by Canali-owned production centers throughout Italy, each specialized in the creation of specific product categories. This ensures perfection in every garment, made carefully by highly skilled craftsmen with a taste for the tradition of fine tailoring and premium quality. Being one of my favourite brands, it truly resonates with me for its meticulous attention to detail, aesthetic appeal and continuously pushing the boundaries of sartorial styling.
In this blog post would like to talk about Canali‘s Spring Summer 2020 menswear collection, inspired by an intimate Italian Summer, a leisurely afternoon with friends and family in a courtyard garden, rediscovering nature’s tranquility.
As many other brands focus on formalwear, Canali is evolving its aesthetic to meet the needs of contemporary times and younger generations. The brand revisited its suits, which came with more deconstructed, softer silhouettes, crafted from both classic sartorial fabrics and highly comfortable jerseys. Separates styled with a tonal palette included striped and checkered blazers matched with polo shirts and shorts, while knitted sweaters were peppered with slightly squared necklines. A sporty vibe was introduced with color-blocked Windbreakers, while bombers mixing tailoring fabrics and suede, as well as the chic safari jackets, combined Canali’s tailoring elegance with an urban appeal.
An air of relaxation permeates the garments: playfulness bridges the gap between formalwear and sportswear. Formal pieces soften, becoming deconstructed and unlined. Blazers are styled with rolled up sleeves and paired with drawstring pants or bermuda shorts. Safari jackets and cargo pants allude to a vintage era: one inspired by nature yet interpreted through a refined lens. Dress shirts make way for casual button downs, boasting patterns and relaxed silhouettes, while knitwear comes to life through intricate texture: sophisticated jacquards interpret dimension and depth on slightly oversized silhouettes.
The color palette draws on discrete hues, evocative of a summer spent on the banks of a lake or in the flowering countryside. The colors simulate a journey through the iconic Italian landscape: warm reds, hazelnut browns, lush greens and earthy neutrals recall the natural tones of the outdoors. Shades of white and gray delicately mingle with assorted hues of blue, which deepen to the color of a lake at dusk. Patterns enhance the chromatic movement with delicate mélange, woven effects, micro-motifs, and toneon- tone expressions, each adding a touch of lively refinement to the collection.
Fabrics take on new esthetics to highlight luxurious compositions as well as innovative effects, two things the brand has been perfecting since 1934. A fresh and relaxed silhouette is the goal this season and Canali presents a new vision of summertime through the choice of colors, fabrics and styles that all come together in an elegant and sophisticated tableau of looks.
To Conclude I have two favourite suits from Canali's 2020 Italian men suits; One of them is the Beige linen suit with herringbone motif with single-breasted jacket with three buttons,It has patch pockets with flaps and buttons, and half-moon breast pocket too.I'm totally loving this look!
You can style it with flat-front pants with quarter-top pockets and back besom pockets; hazelnut brown cotton shirt with honeycomb texture; white crew neck sweater in ribbed cotton; hazelnut brown ascot; black calfskin loafers with woven effect and rubber sole.
I can see myself wearing this look at an outdoor wedding in Cyprus or meeting with friends for coffee. So this kind of look could be a smart and a very casual, depending on the occasion.
My second favourite is the Light blue silk-linen single-breasted blazer with checked motif over heather pattern, also includes two flap pockets, and half-moon breast pocket. This look is very classy!
It has styled with gray cotton three-button ribbed polo; white cotton t-shirt; gray and white heathered cotton-linen flat-front pants with two side pockets and back besom pockets; gray ascot; beige calfskin sneakers with C detail on side and rubber sole.
But the linen blazer just gave a finishing touch to this look. It has created a great contrast and I can see myself wearing this style at a roof bar in a spring night! Which you will get a great attention. Once more time Canali proves that it creates the perfect Italian men suits.
